"Mom/Dad where is my ___?" Sound familiar? Start this year off on the right foot-organized! Don't waste time looking for things! Whether your an experienced parent of school aged children, or this is your first year as a school aged parent, get ready! You must be ready to combat the paperwork, homework, field trip forms and projects that will soon be coming your way. Not to mention the backpacks and all the things you must send to school each morning like a lunch box. The best way to stay organized and on top of the chaos is to designate a place in your home as your School Command Center. It is helpful to make sure each child is assigned a place to put their backpack.
If your home has a place where a hook can be mounted for the backpack to hang and a basket or bin for your child to put all the papers sent home, it will make life much easier for you. Do you have a homework spot? If not, designate one, preferably not where there is a television or other distraction! If the kids start the year off with a routine and a place for everything--you will have instilled great organizational skills in your children. The adults in the home should process the paperwork in the childrens paper baskets or bins at least twice a week-don't turn in those forms and checks late!
Before bedtime, each child should pick out their clothes/shoes and be sure to place school items (projects, show and tell, lunchboxes) with their backpack in the School Command Center. Work as a team, make your system easy, use it and maintain it! Your school year is sure to be efficient!
